Out of the blue

Mazal Tov it’s a boy!! Gila and David were ecstatic to finally hear those words, the moment they had both been waiting for had arrived – the birth of their beautiful healthy baby boy! for Aliza, Gilas one and a half year old, this was the happiest moment in her life-she knew that now she was getting a real baby to play with, no more fake ones.. Once visiting hours were over, David was on his way to make all the arrangments for the bris and for Gilas arrival home.

The Bris was an unbelievably happy occasion; everyone had a tear of joy in their eye. David instantly felt a deep connection to his new baby boy, silently he would wake up every night to watch his baby sleep, cover him, again, and make sure he was ok.

A few weeks later, just as things seemed to settle down and life was beginning to take its normal course, Gila received a shocking phone call, David was hit by a car and has suffered serious head injuries. The doctors told her that in order for his brain to heal he must be constantly stimulated, therefore she should be with him as much as possible. Gila was by his side day and night, she was forced to leave her baby with friends and Aliza in daycare for longer hours . The doctors could not tell her when he was going to feel better; all they said was that these kinds of injuries take a long time to heal. As long as David wasn’t working there was no income. Gila was very overwhelmed by all of the sudden expenses and medical bills. Their saving were quickly dwindling, she knew that it was just a matter of time before she could no longer afford Materna for her baby. That became her main concern, her main worry; she needed to know that she would have a way to feed her child that nothing would get in the way of that. Gila heard about Yad Eliezers Feed- A – Baby program and decided to come down to the offices to share her story with Milka.

Milka saw her walk in with a double stroller, on one side was little girl and in the other a tiny infant. Gila told Milka that she has no family to turn to and no income; she cannot nurse her baby because she must be in the hospital all day, with tears in her eyes and a quivering chin she said, “Please help me feed this baby”. Yad Eliezer assisted Gila with some of her expenses and immediately arranged a complete supply of baby formula for her sweet newborn baby boy.

Just when it all seems hopeless...

We just cannot believe that our youngest boy is turning Bar Mitzvah next week... We feel, as all parents do that he should have the best of everything. He should feel the uniqueness of this stage in his life.

My husband and I have been trying to figure out how to cut back on our basic household expenses in order to afford the Bar Mitzvah. The day that we hoped wouldn’t come – came, it was the day we realized that we will not be able to buy our son Tefillin. Today is Wednesday, the Bar Mitzvah is this Sunday and we dont have the money to pay for his Tefillin. My husband seemed broken and I just walked around hiding my tears.

The situation seemed helpless.

Two months prior to the Bar Mitzvah, I was introduced to Milka from Yad Eliezer, I told her all about the situation we were in, hoping that she would be able to assist me in anyway. I filled out a Bar Mitzvah Twinning application, and then just prayed … Thursday morning I got out of bed, and with swollen eyes I decided to go back to Yad Eliezer.  I walked in and saw Milka sitting behind a desk speaking on the phone. I couldn’t wait another minute, my tears came flowing out of me like a river and without stopping to take a breath I let her know what happened. “We can’t pay for his Tefillin, my husband hasn’t spoken in days, my son won’t get Tefillin for his Bar Mitzvah? I can not let that happen, Please help me, please! Milka looked up at me with a smile and said “I have been trying to get in touch with you all morning - I just hung up with your daughter when you walked in, I called your house to tell you that we got the money for your sons’ Tefillin!”

At that point there was no more holding back – the tears wouldn’t stop, but now it was tears of joy and gratitude to Hashem that He answered our Tefillos and sent us Yad Eliezer who allowed our son to be Mekabel ol Malchus Shamayim with tremendous pride and simcha!
