American Friends of Yad Eliezer now partners with B'ezri
At only 21 years old, Barkai was among the dedicated volunteers and supporters of Yad Eliezer.
Thus eulogized his father after receiving the terrible news:
"Barkai, our beloved child, you always loved to give of yourself, to volunteer, to help others and to share. Even as a young child you loved to volunteer wherever possible. At Yad Eliezer packing food boxes, or at Magen David Adom when you were older. You were a leader at Bnai Akiva. If you saw a man beside the road - you always stopped and helped. When we travelled as a family he always wanted us to take two vehicles so that we could take more hitchhikers.
"Barkai studied for two years in Yeshivat Shavei Chevron and was a very dedicated student. He wanted very much to serve as a paramedic, and made extraordinary efforts to do so, but when he did not succeed - he took on the role of combat soldier with complete dedication- until the very end.
"During his vacations from the army - was a volunteer, sometimes doing double shifts, at MDA. He never took the easy way out, always pushed himself to the limit to help others.
"Barkai was killed in combat, and paid the ultimate price. Great is our loss and the loss of the entire nation."
Once again, B’ezri thinks out of the (gift) box
