Update: Winter Coat Distribution
Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012. 6:10 AM
Over the past week, 1,800 coats have been delivered to 15 communities in Israel. Blanket Distribution coming soon!
This week at the office I had the opportunity to speak to Rabbi Zaritzky, one of Yad Eliezer’s community volunteers, who works tirelessly improve the lot of the most destitute members of Ofakim, one of the poorest communities in Israel. In the course of our conversation on other topics he mentioned that earlier in the week he had been walking down the street and saw children on their way to school in the chilly late December morning without coats. It wasn’t a warm winter day, and Rabbi Zaritzky realized that if the kids did not yet have winter coats, they probably would not get them this season. That sad fact weighed heavy on his heart, but with so much immediate pressing need in the community, he never imagined that he would be able to do anything for the poor cold children. When he received a call later that day from the staff of Yad Eliezer telling asking him for a list of children in the community who needed winter coats with their sizes and genders he was overwhelmed. His joy and satisfaction matched that of the children and their parents as the happily donned their new coats.
Then we received the following letter from Tsfat, another poverty struck community where fashionable warm jackets were delivered:
To the Dear Staff of Yad Eliezer,
I would like to thank you and the generous donors on behalf of the families of Tsfat for your essential help to the community of Tsfat.
The abundant shipment of coats to frigid Tsfat was exactly the right thing at the right time. The coats warm our bodies and our hearts.
Thank you so much for your important work, and may you be blessed with all you need to continue your important work on behalf of the people of Israel.
With Blessings and Thanks!
As this goes to print 1,800 coats have been delivered to 15 communities in Israel. We are currently in the middle of distributing 3,600 blankets as well. By buying in bulk later in the season than most families purchase coats, Yad Eliezer was able to purchase the jackets for a fraction of the retail price, once again using our donors’ money to make the maximum impact on the lives of those in need.
