Just say the word Chanukah and immediately, those classic associations come to mind: Candles. Oil. Chanukah gelt. Latkes & Sufganiot. Warmth. Joy. Light. It may be hard to imagine, but it’s not like that for everyone.
For Israeli families living in poverty, the eight nights of Chanukah are not especially joyful -
they aren’t unlike the other nights of the year. They're just eight more nights of hunger.
Eight more nights of cold, without a winter blanket orheat in the house.
Eight more nights of wishing life could be different-that it could be the same kind of life they see in homes of friends and neighbors.
Families are struggling on a daily basis, especially due to the significant increase in food prices and costs for other basic expenses.
Let's provide some brightness for as many families as possible. Our numerous social service programs support impoverished households with assistance for myriad needs, bringing light and joy back into their lives during the eight nights of Chanukah and throughout the rest of the year. We also have programs aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty, lighting the way towards more promising futures.
This year help American Friends of Yad Eliezer | B'ezri give a Chanukah gift that makes a real difference to families living with real need.
Help needy families with food purchases in honor of the High Holidays. Together we can bring them a sense of celebration, making it a happier new year.
Thousands of families in Israel can barely afford food year-round, let alone the exorbitant prices of matza, wine, and chicken at Pesach time. We can change that.
