Morris Sarfati, owner/manager of auto repair centers

The four Sarfati garages are well-known in Jerusalem. They employ 120 of the finest mechanics to keep Jerusalem's trucks and taxis, cars and motorcycles humming on the streets and highways.

Among the vehicles serviced by Sarfati is the Yad Eliezer fleet. They need a lot of mechanical TLC because of all the wear and tear from constant use in Jerusalem's stop-'n-crawl traffic.

Morris Sarfati recalls the day it all started. "Dov, from Yad Eliezer came here to have a vehicle fixed and we started talking. His reports about the poverty had me in tears. Suddenly it wasn't just a car we were fixing, it was a lifeline for a lot of families.

"That evening I sat down with my three brothers and we decided we would never charge for maintaining Yad Eliezer vehicles. What's more, they would always go to the front of the line. After all, we don't want to be responsible for a hungry widow being kept waiting."
