Helping Children and Families Living in Poverty in Israel

The haggadahs have been read, the matza has been eaten, the special dishes have been packed away. Pesach 2018 is now a memory and it’s time to get back to the grind-work, school, errands- regular life. It’s definitely a time of adjustment and takes a bit of getting used to.

For families who are living in terrible poverty and may or may not have received financial help making some semblance of Pesach, back to the grind often means back to the daily fight to stay afloat. Sadly it also means back to being forgotten. After all, the big campaigns have finished, the country is up and running again and everyone is going about their business. But while that’s happening, quietly in the background, poor families still struggle to pay for food. Utility bills are still overdue. Children with learning issues still go without the unaffordable help they need. Costs of formula for babies and tefillin for bar mitzvahs are still out of reach. And the list goes on…

At Yad Eliezer we have gone back to work, too. Back to the stories, the tears, the need. Back to trying to bring comfort to the suffering, doing our best to help as many of the “forgotten” as possible. We haven’t forgotten them and we’re grateful you haven’t either. Knowing you’re with us-that you’ve got our backs-makes all the difference.
